The Site

The charity owned site is located on the northern edge of Greytree, Ross-on-Wye and comprises 2.85 ha of paddock and general grazing land, to the north of Second Avenue.

The site is located approximately 1.25km north of Ross-on-Wye within a residential area known as Greytree.  The inclined road ‘Greytree’ runs parallel with the A40 in an east-west direction and has six avenues branching off it to the north, simply named, ‘First Avenue’ through to ‘Sixth Avenue’ with ‘First Avenue’ being the highest of the six, at the eastern end of Greytree.

Greytree is suburban in character and comprises a mix of one and two storey properties, with front and rear gardens. To the north the land falls gently towards a wooded area, with a large pond/lake at the lower level, a single dwelling, and agricultural land beyond. To the east lies Brampton Road and, largely hidden behind the trees and native hedgerows, a number of light industrial warehouses can be found.

To the west the land beyond the site falls away towards the Wye Valley, opening up attractive and far reaching views across the countryside. Land use in the vicinity of the site is predominantly residential, with commercial development to the east, however this is accessed via Netherton Road, at the junction of the A40 / A449. The John Kyrle High School lies in fairly close proximity to the south east of the site, on the southern side of the A40.
